We are a law firm dedicated to fighting for the rights of tenants in California. We focus on providing high-quality legal representation for tenants, ensuring they are treated fairly and advocating for their rights in cases involving unlawful eviction, rent control, housing conditions, and other tenant-related matters. Our mission is to ensure that every tenant has access to justice, fair treatment, and secure housing.

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Tenant Rights Attorney to join our team. As a Tenant Rights Attorney at our firm, you will represent tenants in various legal matters involving landlord-tenant disputes, evictions, habitability issues, and violations of California's rent control laws. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated, compassionate, and strategic thinker who is dedicated to fighting for tenants' rights in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Legal Representation: Provide legal representation to tenants in a wide range of housing-related matters, including eviction defense, unlawful rent increases, habitability issues, and violations of tenant protections under California law.

  • Case Management: Manage a caseload of tenant rights cases, from intake to resolution, ensuring that all deadlines are met and that clients are kept informed throughout the legal process.

  • Litigation: Represent clients in state and federal court, including trial preparation, settlement negotiations, and presenting cases at trial when necessary.

  • Client Interaction: Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, providing clear legal guidance, advice, and updates throughout their cases.

  • Legal Research and Writing: Conduct thorough legal research to support cases and draft legal documents, including motions, pleadings, discovery requests, and briefs.

  • Advocacy: Advocate for tenants' rights within the legal community and broader public sphere, including through community outreach, education, and policy work.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with other attorneys and support staff to ensure the effective and efficient handling of tenant rights cases.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD): A Juris Doctor from an accredited law school.

  • Admitted to the California Bar: Must be in good standing with the California State Bar.

  • Experience: At least 2 years of experience practicing law, with a strong preference for experience in landlord-tenant law, eviction defense, rent control, or housing law. Prior experience working with tenants or low-income communities is highly desirable.

  • Strong Advocacy Skills: Ability to represent clients effectively in court and in settlement negotiations.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues in a clear and understandable way.

  • Passion for Tenant Rights: A demonstrated commitment to fighting for tenants' rights and housing justice, especially for marginalized communities.

  • Organization: Ability to manage a caseload of multiple cases, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • Competitive salary based on experience.

  • Health insurance, dental, and vision benefits.

  • Generous paid time off and holidays.

  • 401(k) retirement plan with firm contributions.

  • Opportunities for professional development and advancement.
